Where we shopped small in 2024
There are so. many. amazing independent brands and businesses out there and I'm very lucky to get to discover them on a daily basis.
I thought that now [amongst the chaos and loudness of Black Friday sales and the lead up to Christmas] would be a great time to share some businesses that I've personally shopped with this year.
When you choose to buy from a small business, not only do you end up with a beautiful product that's been made and packaged with love and care, you also get to feel good about supporting the talented and hard-working people behind the brand. It's a win all around in my view.
So, scroll on for ten of my favourite small business legends...
I've been a fan girl of this ceramics brand by Kelly Murphy for a while, and own several pieces of her beautiful art, including a platter, a couple of planters and wall hangings.
'Jewellery with a conscious mind', created by Bree - currently obsessed with their super cute handmade beaded bracelets.
Another local to the Mornington Peninsula, jewellery brand Emeldo was established by owner, creator + maker Emily. Emeldo jewels are eclectic and fun, you can shop all styles online or at over 120 stockists - who are also small businesses!
My number one go-to for birthdays, parties and celebrations, Hello Kit Co curate an amazing range of cake toppers, candles, twine, party kits, cards and much more. They're also based on the Mornington Peninsula - shop online or at several stockists around Australia.
I first came across La Lune when the owner and creator Shannon ordered a custom embosser last year, and has been on my wish list ever since. After dropping some heavy hints, my husband gifted me the initial necklace for my birthday this year.
Lucky Things make plant pins from recycled plastic that support your plant friends, and look very cute to boot!
And another Mornington Peninsula based business, OnStone print your photos onto stone and frame them in reclaimed timber. I now have several of their prints, the quality is amazing and the service is always top notch.
Clearly I have a thing for plants! These guys are also Melbourne based and make sustainable, sculptural plant stakes, planters and plant stands.
I discovered Stump & Co the same way I've discovered so may other incredible small businesses - when they ordered a rubber stamp back in 2018. Created and run by husband and wide Tegan and Luke, Stump & Co make premium woodwick candles with scents inspired by the Australian bush. I've ordered several times since - my personal favourite is Bush Walk.
Zaziba Studio is an Australian slow fashion label founded and operated by Verity, an artist and dress designer, and based in Mollymook on the NSW South Coast. I have two pairs of their linen pants [and saving up for another] and they are my absolute favourites.
Happy shopping [small]!
